Jail Facility / Type 1

The Taft Police Department Type 1 Jail Facility is overseen by a Police Lieutenant. Our jail facility provides enough beds to accommodate 4 females and 9 male inmates. These individuals are pre-trial arrestees who have either active arrest warrants or open misdemeanor and felony charges. Inmates in our type 1 facility are only held for a maximum of 96 hours, precluding any emergency.

Currently our facility is maintained by POST (peace officer standards and  training) certified correctional officers with assistance from Taft City Police Officers. Correctional Officers must complete a California Standard and Corrections (STC) certified Correctional Officers Academy. Additionally, all jail staff must receive continued training of at least 24 hours every year. The mission of the Taft Police Department jail is to maintain the safety, security and well-being of the inmates in our custody.

All inmates are informed of their ability to contact family, employers, and legal counsel, and assist the families with information about those we hold in custody as well as visitation. Additionally, inmates are served three meals daily, which are strictly regulated by the state and county for its caloric and nutritional content. Each inmate is afforded access to showers, basic hygiene articles and reading material.
